Hoʻoulu Counseling was founded out of a deep love for the Kona community and the families—our ‘ohana—who call West Hawai‘i home. Rooted in the meaning of “hoʻoulu,” our practice is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate mental health counseling that supports healing, connection, and personal growth.
“to grow, sprout, propagate; to cause to increase, as the surf.” – Hawaiian Dictionary, Pukui
As a locally rooted group practice in Kailua-Kona, we understand the unique strengths and challenges of living in Hawai‘i. Our therapists are committed to offering culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families across West Hawai‘i. We strive to create a space where each person feels seen, heard, and valued.
We are deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hoʻoulu Counseling honors individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences, including differences in culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, and lived experience. We recognize the importance of providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where clients can show up fully as themselves and receive care that is both affirming and empowering.
At Hoʻoulu Counseling, our mission is to strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of our community—one individual and one ‘ohana at a time. We help clients explore their life experiences, better understand their thoughts and emotions, and develop practical tools for navigating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.
Through evidence-based therapy approaches and a warm, personalized style, we walk alongside our clients as they reconnect with their strengths, deepen their relationships, and move toward a more fulfilling, balanced, and satisfying life.
